The Youth Participation program (YPP) is designed to give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people a safe, supportive space to share their voices, have their goals acknowledged, and participate in decision-making that affects their lives. Guided by the Family Led Decision Making (FLDM) process, this program focuses on empowering young people and their families to discuss what matters most and identity changes that will promote happiness, wellbeing and a brighter future.

- Are at risk of entering the youth justice system, regardless of whether they are currently on any orders
- May have siblings involved in the justice system or who have had cautions or interactions with police
Live within our designated Goolburri footprint catchment areas
Why It Matters
Youth crime rates are high in Queensland. Many young people do not always have the opportunity to be heard to have their goals acknowledged. Our program provides a structures and culturally safe space for young people to be listened to and supported in expressing their goals and needs, participate in shaping decisions that affect their lives and futures, access guidance and mentorship to reduce the risk of involvement with the justice system. This program also informs the broader community that a support service exists specially for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Youth, encouraging early intervention and connection to positive pathways.
How We Support Young People
- Guidance and advocacy to ensure their voices are heard
- Support to identify goals and action steps that align with their wellbeing and aspirations
- Culturally safe discussions and workshops led by trained staff
- Connection to community supports, services and opportunities for personal development
